ABSTRACT:
Mucuna pruriens, commonly known as velvet bean, is a tropical leguminous plant widely recognized for its nutritional and medicinal significance. It has been extensively utilized in traditional systems of medicine, particularly Ayurveda, for managing neurological disorders, metabolic conditions, and reproductive health issues. The plant is rich in bioactive constituents such as L-DOPA, alkaloids, flavonoids, phenolic compounds, and essential fatty acids, which contribute to its diverse pharmacological properties. Scientific investigations have demonstrated its antioxidant, antidiabetic, neuroprotective, antimicrobial, and antivenom activities.
